How Digital Studio LP works with low-resolution copies of your high-resolution originals

When adding your high-resolution images to a project, Digital Studio LP will make low-resolution copies of the images to work with inside the program. This allows you to store your high-resolution images on CDs or other storage devices, and efficiently manage many projects without taking up excessive room on your computer's hard drive.

Working with low-resolution copies NOTES and TIPS:

Adding images to your project from your computer's hard drive will be quicker than adding them from other storage media. This is because the program can read your image files at a much higher speed from your hard drive.

Q: Is it possible to work directly with my high-resolution files?

A: No, it is not currently possible to work with your high-resolution files. In the future, with the addition of image correction and manipulation tools, we will give you the ability to work directly with your high-resolution files.

Q: If I am not working directly with my high-resolution files, how does the cropping I specify get applied to the image before it gets printed at my lab?

A: All of the cropping/modifications you specify for your images in Digital Studio LP are recorded mathematically in double precision, the highest precision possible. When you create an order to transmit to your lab, we create a copy of your high-resolution files and include the copping/modifications you specified. At the lab, our software processes your order using the high-resolution files and cropping/modifications you specified.

Q: Won't the images I present to my clients using Digital Studio LP look poor because they are low resolution?

A: The low-resolution images added to your projects are scaled to the approximate size of the display in Digital Studio LP at its recommend screen resolution. At this screen resolution it is difficult to tell that the image you are viewing is a scaled, much smaller version of the original high-resolution image. We allow you to adjust the size of the low-resolution image in the System Preferences, giving you the ability to choose a size that looks good on your display.

Digital Studio LP supports JPEG, JPEG 2000, TIFF, and LZ-Compressed TIFF file formats.

Working with high-resolution images that are in the JPEG format will increase the speed at which you can add images to your project, and will decrease the amount of memory needed to work with those images.

Q: Do you support RAW files?

A: We currently do not support any RAW image formats due to the amount of work required to work with all of the different versions of the RAW files. As RAW files become more standardized among camera manufacturers we will add RAW files as a supported file format.
