Setting up Windows Vista & Windows 7 Network Preferences

This document will walk you through setting up your Network Preferences from a Windows Vista and Windows 7 computer. It is highly recommended should you run into trouble following these guidelines, you go through them with a certified network technician.

Before Setting up Networking:

Different photography studios have varying network setups, which can depend on their workflow and size. Below we have listed three different networking configurations and we highly recommend reading through all of them before setting up your LabPrints network:

  • Central Server Setup: The most recommended setup is to use the fastest computer on the network with the most available disk space as the server. Every other workstation in the studio would read and create projects from this server. This gives you the ability to backup all of your LabPrints data from one location.
  • Multiple Remote Locations Setup: Studios with several part time workers or users with laptops will generally store projects on each individual computer, which could then be shared with the rest of the network. Each remote location would need to be added to other network computers individually.
  • Presentation Setup: Some smaller studios that use only one or two computers may have a separate machine with no projects on its local hard drive (except for one test project), located in a presentation room. This is often a computer that has our LP Projection Tool software installed on it. This machine would just need to network to the other remote locations in the studio, to access those projects for projection and client presentations.
Networking Setup:
  1. Proceed to the following file location:
    • C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\ Microsoft\Windows
    • The AppData folder is hidden under your user directory, you will not be able to see this if you do not have hidden files showing.
    • To get to it click on the Title bar that lists out the file path and type \AppData next to your username (as we have to the right)
    • OR turn hidden file browsing off (click to find out how).
  2. Right-Click on the LabPrints folder and click Properties.
  1. Click the Sharing tab
  2. Click Share...
  1. Click the Network and Sharing Center link.
  1. Under Public Folder Sharing select the middle option to Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open, change and create files.
  2. Click Apply.
  1. Click on File Sharing.
  2. Check off the option to Turn on file sharing.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Close this window.
  1. Click the arrow dropdown menu.
  2. Select Everyone.
  3. Click Add.
  1. Click the Reader dropdown menu next to Everyone and select Co-Owner.
  1. Click Share.
17. Once the Sharing items... window finishes proceed to our Networking document for completing this process in LP Digital Studio.
